Our client, an art collector, sought to build a new home that would balance access to Sound views, with adequate wall space to exhibit her collection.
On the interior, an open floor plan maximizes access to the art and accommodates our client’s interest in entertaining. Windows are located to maximize easterly views to the Sound, while finding a balance of light on the interior to minimize glare. All display walls are scaled to accommodate large works, while some are detailed to provide architectural frames for the artworks, for example the aniline dyed panels which in some cases also function as sliding partitions.
The house is sensitive to the streetscape in maintaining the scale of adjacent 1½ story buildings on the street, while stepping down the hill to the back and exposing three floor levels – all with outdoor living space – to views of Puget Sound.
