Seward Park Accessory Building

Maximize square footage, characterize space

This detached accessory building addresses short and long term plans – a detached home office and work-out space for immediate use that can be converted to a fully-functional “mother-in-law” apartment with two-car garage for future renting opportunities. The garage space doubles as a workout room, and connects to a patio between the house and the studio.

The useable square footage on this site, for studio and garage, is limited by code to 800 sq. ft. By moving the stair to the exterior, locating the bath and storage spaces under a loft, and building elements such as the kitchen, seating and desk into the perimeter wall, useable square footage was maximized to create a functional and spacious studio able to meet current and future needs.
