A celebration of vertical space and interior light

In a beach-cottage like setting along Seattle's Lake Washington shoreline, this residence turns the challenges of a closely-spaced setting only 30 feet wide into a celebration of vertical space and interior light. Staggered floors shift to provide lake views and communal outdoor space at every level. A widened stairwell opening along the north wall streams light into the center of the building. Views at the narrow ends of the site overlook Lake Washington to the east and wooded biked trails to the west.
