Enhancing a series of earlier additions with a balancing wing

On this unique five-acre property looking east over Lake Washington, our clients sought a music conservatory addition with a second story balcony overlook and an exterior roof deck. Our project provides a contextual balancing wing on the original Georgian Colonial home, which had received carriage house wing and porte-cochere additions in the past. An elliptical vault and non-regular floor framing are among the measures taken to maximize the quality of sound in the space. The dance floor is composed of several varieties of hardwood including rift white oak, chestnut, yellow heart and mahogany. The clients add a personal touch, painting the trompe l'oeil sky on the elliptical vault.
